Ten years ago, the Opel plant in Bochum finally closed its gates. Since then, a unique innovation area has been developed. Institutions of the Ruhr University create business from knowledge here.

The first Opel Kadett rolled off the production line in Bochum on 12 October 1962. Cars were produced here, on the former colliery site, for over 50 years until the plant finally closed on 14 December 2014.

Meanwhile, it is the tenth anniversary of the closure of the Opel plant. During this time, a lot has changed on Mark 51°7, as the former Opel grounds are now called. Ruhr- University Bochum and its institutions play a special role in this process. Together with politics and business, they have created a unique place on the former Opel site where science, industry and society can interact.
