A week ago, the Open Acess article "Casualisation of work, free riding and institutional distrust: Explaining social protection preferences of platform workers in Germany" was published in the Journal of Social Policy Research. In this article, the authors investigate the social protection preferences of platform workers using a mixed methods design based on an online survey (n = 719) and qualitative in-depth interviews (n = 20) with self-employed platform workers in Germany. Against this background, they discuss challenges for social policies aiming at improving social protection for platform workers.

The article was prepared by Dr Fabian Beckmann, Dr Fabian Hoose, Lara Obereiner and Serkan Topal during the collaboration in a research project between the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen.
